'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen
Mandy
Pride and Prejudice is a book that most of you have probably heard of. It was written by Jane Austen, and is one of my favourites! It is amazing! The plot is basically a love story, but it is very different from modern ones.
The heroine is called Elizabeth Bennett. She has four sisters called Jane, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. The book begins when a wealthy man named Charles Bingley moves into their neighbourhood, together with his friend Fitzwilliam Darcy. (The movie 'Bride and Prejudice is based on the book!!)
So, back to the story. The book focuses on Darcy and Lizzie's relationship, which would have run perfectly smoothly were it not for the 'odious Mr Collins'....
Yes. So. Read it! It is on the top shelf of the senior fiction section in the library.
I have a favour to ask...... A group of us are attempting to write stories on line.
Please, if you have time, visit my story link and review it! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4862010/1/Camira
Perhaps you might like to attempt one yourself.

Just to say, please read and review some stories on fanfiction.net. Because they are written by regular people who will probably not become proper authors, and they deserve to be recognised. Seriously, I write on there too, and I know how annoying it can be to spend ages writing and have no encouragement or appreciation.
Thanks a bunch!

'The Boleyn Inheritence' By Phillipa Gregory (blog by Mandy!!)
The book is about the fourth and fifth wives of Henry the Eighth and the fight for the throne of England. The book starts just before the marrige of Henry and Anne of Cleves, and is told from the viewpoints of Anne, Katherine Howard and Jane Boleyn, and focuses on Katherine's journey to the throne, and Anne's journey from it.
The book is very well written and the story is very easy to get into. I really recommend it. In some places it is a bit....adult, but you can skip these parts!! The book really opens up the character of Katherine, and looks into what Anne would be feeling, and Jane's memories of the first Queen Anne and her brother.
So, read it!! I'm not just being silly (well, this is a matter of opinion, but I am being less silly than usual)
Lots of love

Trudi Canavan - Priestess of the White
Priestess of the White, By Trudi Canavan
{1st book in the trilogy 'Age of the Five'}
This book is set in an imaginary land called Northern Ithania, and its main character is called Auraya. She is chosen to be one of the 5 head priests, or 'White', and the book is all about her first years as one of them and the challenges that she faces.
We think that this book is a really good because...
a) Auraya is a very interesting character, and as strange as her situation is, it is very easy to relate to her.
b) all of the other characters are very well formed and believable.
c) the book has a very good plot which will entrance you within the first chapter.
and, finally,
d) Auraya has a really cute pet, called Mischief!!
So, read it!!
Amazon says.....
In a land on the brink of peace—watched jealously by a ruthless cult from across the sea and beset by hidden enemies—five extraordinary humans must serve as sword and shield of the Gods.
Auraya is one.
Her heroism saved a village from destruction; now Auraya has been named Priestess of the White. The limits of her unique talents must be tested in order to prove her worthy of the honor and grave responsibility awarded to her. But a perilous road lies ahead, fraught with pitfalls that will challenge the newest servant of the gods. An enduring friendship with a Dreamweaver—a member of an ancient outcast sect of sorcerer-healers—could destroy Auraya's future. And her destiny has set her in conflict with a powerful and mysterious, black-clad sorcerer with but a single purpose: the total annihilation of the White. And he is not alone . . .

The Boleyn Inheritance / Phillipa Gregory
From the bestselling author of 'The Other Boleyn Girl' comes a wonderfully atmospheric evocation of the court of Henry VIII, and the one woman who destroyed two of his queens. The year is 1539 and the court of Henry VIII is increasingly fearful at the moods of the ageing sick king. With only a baby in the cradle for an heir, Henry has to take another wife and the dangerous prize of the crown of England is won by Anne of Cleves. She has her own good reasons for agreeing to marry a man old enough to be her father, in a country where to her both language and habits are foreign. Although fascinated by the glamour of her new surroundings, she senses a trap closing around her....
Have you read it? What did you think?

Anna, a young countess, has lived in the glittering city of St Petersburg all her life in an ice-blue palace overlooking the River Neva. But when revolution tears Russia apart, her now-penniless family is forced to flee to England. Armed with an out-of-date book on housekeeping, Anna determines to become a housemaid and she finds work at the Earl of Westerholme's crumbling but magnificent mansion. The staff and the family are sure there is something not quite right about their new maid - but she soon wins them over with her warmth and dedication. Then the young Earl returns home from the war - and Anna falls hopelessly in love. But they can never be together: Rupert is engaged to the snobbish and awful Muriel - and anyway, Anna is only a servant. Or so everybody thinks...
